On 10/4/2018 at about 07:20am the Mechanicsburg Police Department, the Mechanicsburg Fire Department and Holy Spirit EMS were dispatched to the area of East Main Street and South Norway Street for a crash. Upon arriving on scene it was determined that the following occurred: A commercial flatbed truck was traveling westbound on East Trindle Road into the Borough, hauling a load of stone counter tops. As the truck negotiated the turn at the Borough line and the railroad tracks, the load came loose and fell into the eastbound lane. The stone struck an SUV traveling eastbound and launched the vehicle backwards. The SUV came to a rest against a telephone pole. Debris from the stone also struck a vehicle stopped at the stop sign on South Norway Street. The stone traveled for another 50 to 100 yards blocking East Main Street.
The driver of the SUV was transported to the hospital, the extent of the driver’s injuries is unknown. The SUV had extensive front end damage and required towing from the scene.
The roadway was closed for several hours. PPL responded to assess the telephone pole. PENNDOT was dispatched to the scene and cleaned up the debris.
The Mechanicsburg Police Department is finalizing the investigation into the crash.
