OTE18RyanOn October 19, 2018 four members of the Mechanicsburg Police Department participated in a fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the OTE18JustinCapital Region.  The funds raised for the event go to support the Bigs in Blue program. The Police Department partners with the Mechanicsburg Area School District and Big Brothers Big Sisters in this program.  The program is a school based program that pairs Officers with “littles” that the Officers visit during recess or lunch.  Mechanicsburg was the first Department in Cumberland County to participate in the program.

Mechanicsburg was able to raise the most money of all the participating teams for the second year in a row and this year Chief Myers was the overall top fundraiser.

Big Brothers Big Sisters raised approximately $78,000.00 for the program this year.OTE18Evan

The Police Department would like to thank everyone who donated to help them reach their goal of $1000.00 per person to be able to go “Over the Edge”.  Going “Over the Edge” is a form of “urban rappelling” which, in this case, consisted of going down the outside of an 18 story office building on Second Street in Harrisburg.

Participating in the event were Chief Margaret Myers (pictured: bottom left), Officer Justin Myers (pictured: top left), Officer Ryan McCormick (pictured: top right) and Officer Evan Shipley (pictured: bottom right).  All three of the Officers are “Bigs”OTE18Chief and all four participants were involved in the event last year as well .

Once again, the Police Department wants to thank everyone who helped them get “Over the Edge” and allowed them to assist with this very worthwhile cause, mentoring youth in the Community.
