Jeff Gardner is new Building Code Official (BCO) for the Borough of Mechanicsburg. Jeff works in the Borough Office at 36 W. Allen St. in the Borough. His responsibility is oversight and enforcement of the borough’s Building Code Department, the Property Rental program, is a voting member of the HARB (as BCO), and back-up to the Borough’s Zoning Officer.
Jeff has an eclectic background. He has been the acting BCO for the Borough since 2014 through a 3rd Party Agency, Approved Code Services, Inc. Approved Code will still be used for certain UCC functions on an as needed basis. Prior to starting with Approved Code in 2010, he worked as a consultant for Churches and Church Camp Capital Campaign Management for 10 years. Prior to that, Jeff was involved in both acute and later chronic healthcare management, ending that career as a Regional Logistics Manager for the largest Home Medical Services and Equipment Company in the country where he managed operations in 5 states and managed budgets upwards of $90,000,000.
Educationally, Jeff has holds an Associates in Science degree from Mansfield College (now University) but, Jeff says, “life and professional experiences far outweigh my formal education. I’m very blessed and thankful for that!”
A life-long resident of Cumberland County, PA Jeff grew up in Wormleysburg where he served voluntarily in emergency medical and fire services, was Civil Defense Coordinator for a few years, and achieved the distinction of being one of the youngest instructors for the American Red Cross of Advanced First Aid and CPR, achieving over 5000 hours of service by the age of 18 or 19.
Jeff and his wife Eileen of more than 35 years, live in Silver Spring Township, just outside the Borough limits. His wife has been an educator in Messiah College’s Nursing program for more for nearly 32 years. They have two grown children, a son who owns his own contracting business and a daughter working in the early child development.
